Trying something new!

For Christmas, I asked for a dollhouse kit. As a mom to three boys, dolls just aren't something we have a lot of around here. I love all crafts, and thought it might be fun to try my hand a miniatures for something new. My family got me a Greenleaf kit called the Orchid. It is a small four-room, two-story house in 1" scale.

Today I got brave and decided to start on it. It just so happened that I found a few others on Facebook that are starting the same house right now as well. From reading a bunch of blogs about the build, it seems like the best order to do things in is not the order listed in the instructions. Being the type that follows the directions to the letter, I am taking a bit of a combined path. I will most likely follow many of the directions as written, but put the major "bones" of the house together right away as well to make it easier to see where I am going with it all.

The first few steps in the published directions tell you to put together the double hung and octagonal windows. I used Delta Ceramcoat Acrylic pain in a sandstone color for all of the trim, Lineco PVA adhesive to glue the window panes in place, and a gridded ruler to get the lines as straight as possible.
