It is March here in Western New York. The snow comes and goes, and each time it does, I yearn more for the day I can get outdoors and start digging in the dirt. For now, I have to read about gardening, and plan this year's crops. I want to try some new things this growing season including some removable raised beds, some self watering containers, and corn and potatoes.
Last year was my first vegetable gardning attempt since I was a child, and I was reasonably successful. The squash vine borers took out my cucumbers and my pumpkins, and the Japanese Beetles did a number on my beans. I planted more radishes than a small family could possibly eat, and more cherry tomatoes than the entire neighborhood could eat. Good lessons to learn for this year though.
While I am waiting for the ground to thaw and the air to warm, I knit. I have more projects started than I should admit to, but the most recent completions are a gossamer shawl for me and two pair of socks for my son. Currently, I am making a felted cap that will be made into a replica of an Iroquois headdress - complete with a band of fox pelt and about 80 turkey feathers!
