Keeping My Hands Busy

They have been increasing the volume of Emerson's feeds since they started feeding him again on Friday. He is now up to a whole 10 cc's every three hours. He is having a lot of trouble with his BPD (basically lung damage from having to be on the ventilator.) His oxygen saturation in his blood is bouncing around like a ping pong ball and he is certainly keeping his nurses quite busy making fine adjustments to the O2 settings. In the meantime, they are being pretty conservative about when we can hold him, and he isn't tolerating much int he way of touch, so I sit next to him and knit or crochet most of the day.

My finished project pile is getting larger and larger. So far since this whole things started, I have crocheted an amigurumi pig, penguin, and turtle, knit 3 socks (haven't started the 4th one yet), made two knit blankets for Emerson, three hats, a cashmere one piece drawstring gown, a blue drawstring gown, booties, crocheted borders on two fleece blankets, and am working on a little v-neck cardigan sweater for Emerson. Every day the nurses come by to see what the project of the day is. :-) I have tons of yarn, and the next projects planned are a crazy fuzzy triangle alien guy for Colin, orange socks for Dutton (a special request from him) and another sweater for Emerson. If I get bored with those, I also have yarn for about 10-15 uteri for BirthMatters to sell at the Lamaze conference this fall. (Maybe I should get to work on those to pay for all of the gas I am using driving back and forth to the hospital!)
