Field Trip!

Emerson took his first trip out of the NICU today to travel down to the ground floor to the nuclear medicine department for his scan. I think he enjoyed seeing some new sights. He was awake for the travel and slept through the entire test. Since the only radiation was the baby himself, I was able to be with him in the room the entire time and they even let me take pictures! He was wrapped like a baby burrito and tied up with a big velcro wrap. They injected him with the radioactive liquid and then he went into the scanner. It took a picture every 5 minutes for the first half hour, then took pictures at 45, 60 and 75 minutes out. They warned me that a lot of times they have to bring the babies back for more pictures 6 hours out and 24 hours out if they aren't seeing what they want to see, but they got all the pictures they needed in the 75 minute time frame. That shows that the connections between the liver and the intestines are open and working. YEAH!

note: I know there a lot of people that are keeping an eye on the blog for updates. I'd love for you to leave comments if you are so inclined! :-)

Oh, yes, I'm always popping onto the blog to see how he's doing. I don't usually have much to say, but you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Kaiya and I check in on Emerson updates all the time. We are so excited that he is doing so wonderfully and can't wait to meet him soon. Each time we see his pictures Kaiya points and excitedly says "Emson"...she used to call him Dutton!

XOXOXO,
Dara
