Emerson was home for less than 24 hours :-(

Well, unfortunately, Emerson had other plans than to be home. This morning at the pediatrician's office he decided to stop breathing for who knows what reason! As a result, we got the honor of the NICU transport team coming to the office in their special ambulance and taking us right back to the isolation room we left yesterday.
Today has been the blur of a full septic workup including being poked and prodded in every way imaginable - including a spinal tap, lots of blood work, and urine cultures (try getting a clean catch specimen from a baby - it isn't fun!) So far nothing has showed up askew in any of the test results so we wait and see. Emerson has been appropriately upset while they have been doing all of the test, so he certainly isn't acting very sick at all. He has also been completely relaxed in my arms during the times they weren't poking at him. It's almost like he was saying - "oh good, I'm back home."
Last night was rough. Colin was the only one in the household that got any sleep to speak of. Emerson just grumbled all night - not really crying, but not sleeping soundly either. Dutton didn't like the fact that Emerson was in our room and he wasn't, and there certainly wasn't enough Mama to go around. I was so looking forward to a nice relaxing nap with my baby this afternoon after the doctor's appointment - NOT!
Once again, we wait and see... The doctor said at the very least, if they find nothing going on at all and he doesn't have any more events, they will keep us at least three days.

My special "reframing" of today's events (as labeled by the NICU social worker)

1) There was someone he forgot to say goodbye to and he had to go back to see them.
2) He decided he liked it better in the NICU because there he was an "only child: and had Mama all to himself.
3) He missed Micayla - his friend since birth who was in the bed next to him all but two days of his NICU stay.

Christine, sorry to hear that Emerson's back in the hospital. I'm thinking of all of you. Mira
